Workshop participants:

We have revised the Workshop timing scope and agenda in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Our invited speakers will prepare a series of 10 regional overview lectures that will be pre-recorded and available on the Western Boundary Current-Shelf Workshop general space hosted within WebEx Teams beginning about October 26, 2020.

In place of the planned in-person workshop on Nov 2-4, 2020, we will be hosting two virtual “pre-workshop” interactive panel discussions. The first panel will be held on November 10th, 2020, at 12:00 UTC, and will focus on the Gulf Stream, Brazil Current and Agulhas Current regional systems. The second panel will be held on November 17th, 2020, at 0:00 UTC, and will focus on the Kuroshio and East Australian Current systems. We will also reserve time within that 2nd session for a discussion of relevant similarities and differences among all five WBC-influenced shelf ecosystems.

We recognize that it is impossible to fully accommodate the schedules of all our participants who are scattered across at least 13 time zones around the world. However, all of the live virtual sessions will be recorded, and participants will have access to those sessions via our Webex portal after November 17th. It is our desire that the conversation among our participants can continue through the Webex portal after the “pre-workshop” sessions have concluded.

We are using Webex as our platform for conducting all our “pre-workshop” activities. Even if you have already registered for the original workshop, in order to participate in the pre-workshop sessions, you must:

1. Complete the registration questionnaire <HERE>

2. Create (or use your existing) a Webex account (https://cart.webex.com/sign-up-webex),

3. Email that Webex account email address to the workshop moderator (william.savidge@skio.uga.edu) with the subject Western Boundary Current Shelf Workshop Virtual Registration, AND

4. Specify which sessions you wish to attend in real time. You may attend both.

5. You will then receive instructions concerning the lectures and virtual conference to be starting November 10th.

Your Webex account will allow you to access all ten regional overview talks, submit questions and comments to the entire group prior to and during the virtual sessions, access the live interactive session(s) of your choice, view both the recorded sessions after November 17th, and continue the pre-workshop discussion through the workshop Webex portal.

We are still planning an in-person Workshop in Savannah, GA. That event has been rescheduled for November 14-17, 2021. A new registration process for the meeting will begin in summer 2020. The agenda for that event will be developed in response to this community’s input into the pre-workshop sessions. Registration for that event will be made available sometime during summer 2021, by which time we hope for the return of post-coronavirus normalcy.
