Driving Directions to Skidaway Institute of Oceanography

– From Downtown (Red Route):

  1. Head east on President Street. Just outside downtown, turn left onto Harry S. Truman Parkway.
  2. Continue on Harry S. Truman Parkway to the Whitefield Avenue exit, then turn left onto Whitefield Avenue. (1C)
  3. Whitefield Avenue becomes Spur 204 East and then Diamond Causeway. Continue across the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Bridge onto Skidaway Island.
  4. Proceed through two traffic lights. At the four-way stop, turn left onto McWhorter Drive. (1D)
  5. Follow McWhorter Drive for approximately 4.2 miles to its end. About halfway along McWhorter Drive, you’ll come to a fork; stay left. The Skidaway Marine Science Campus is located at the end of the road, which ends in a loop. The UGA Skidaway Institute Administration building is the tan brick building at the far end of the loop, adjacent to the flagpole.

– From the South (Yellow Route):

  1. From I-95 North, take Exit 94 (Route 204/Abercorn Street). (3A)
  2. Follow Route 204 East towards Savannah.
  3. After approximately 10 miles, turn right onto Harry S. Truman Parkway. (3B)
  4. Continue on Harry S. Truman Parkway to the Whitefield Avenue exit, then turn right onto Whitefield Avenue. (3C)
  5. Whitefield Avenue becomes Spur 204 East and then Diamond Causeway. Continue across the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Bridge onto Skidaway Island.

  4. Continue on DeRenne Avenue to the Harry S. Truman Parkway interchange, marked by an overpass. Turn right onto Harry S. Truman Parkway. (2C)
  5. Continue on Harry S. Truman Parkway to the Whitefield Avenue and exit, turn left onto Whitefield Avenue.

From Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV)

Take I-95 South from the airport and follow the directions From the North (Blue Route). The drive to the UGA Skidaway Institute is approximately 45 minutes. Rental cars are available at the airport.
