Lawrence and Janet Pomeroy Memorial Graduate Student Fund

Overview

The Lawrence and Janet Pomeroy Memorial Graduate Student Fund, which was endowed by Emeritus Professor Dr. Gustav Paffenhöfer, offers limited support to University of Georgia graduate students to attend a conference, summer program and/or to conduct research. Awards are for the following purposes for graduate students:
 
1) Conference support to participate in a conference and present on research
  • Meeting registration fee
  • Meeting travel
  • Meeting accommodations
2) Research support
  • Travel to a study site away from home institution
  • Accommodations while conducting research away from home institution
  • Equipment and supplies

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must be graduate students enrolled at UGA and studying marine biological sciences. Preference will be given to applicants studying marine ecology. 

Amount

This annual award is up to a total of $2,000, depending on endowment performance. The award is dispersed in two equal payments, one in fall semester and one in spring semester.

How to Apply

To apply, students must submit a copy of their CV and a one-page statement of interest. Applications will be reviewed by a committee made up of UGA Franklin College Department of Marine Sciences faculty located at both the Athens and Skidaway campuses, as well as Dr. Paffenhöfer.  

Applications for 2025 have closed. Applications for 2026 will open in June 2026.
