Sean is a postdoc working in the Cohen lab. His research is aimed at better understanding the ecology of marine life, from the smallest single-celled microbes to DNA molecules that are shed from larger animals like fish and invertebrates. At SkIO, Sean will leverage ‘omics tools to characterize coastal phytoplankton communities along physical and biochemical gradients in the South Atlantic Bight and Gulf of Mexico. These efforts will be an important step to predict how microbes respond to changing conditions in these highly dynamic continental shelf ecosystems.

Sean graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Old Dominion University, a master’s degree in Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island (Graduate School of Oceanography), and a PhD in Marine Sciences from the University of Georgia.
